With summer here, Windward can’t help but think about life on the water and boats. Whether it’s sailing, fishing, swimming, or beach lounging, we love all things water-related and look forward to summer every year.
If you need a break from the stock market and financial planning, here are a few of our favorite places in or around the metro for some waterside summer fun:
Longview Lake
This 930-acre lakes offers all the waterside fun you could ask for in Jackson County, Missouri. After obtaining your fishing license you can rent 16-foot Jon boat from the Longview Marina for a day of Largemouth Bass, Bluegill or Crappie fishing.
Longview Marina also offers pontoon rentals to take the family out on the water for skiing, tubing and swimming! For you landlubbers, Longview Lake also offers a 1-acre beach for lounging, picnics, and sand castle building. The kids in the family (and maybe a few adults) will also enjoy Rowdy Ribbits, an inflatable obstacle course right on the lake.
Lake Jacomo
Near Blue Springs, Lake Jacomo offers 970 acres of space to unwind. The maximum horsepower for motor boats is 25 hp, sailboats and pontoons are limited to 40hp.
Due to the limited horsepower, Lake Jacomo is perfect for those wanting a more relaxing day on the water.
The Lake Jacomo Marina offers pedal boats, paddle boats, canoes and 1- or 2-man kayaks for hourly rent.
In addition, you can rent a fishing boat or Jon boat for a day of fishing for Walleye, Carp, Bluegill, Crappie or Bass. Already have your own boat? Lake Jacomo offers 3 boat ramps.
Perry State Park
Perry State Park in Jefferson County, KS is the perfect place for any outdoor enthusiast. Lake Perry is spread out over 11,630 acres which is plenty large for all your watersport activities.
The Lake Perry Yacht and Marina offers boats of all sizes for rent. The lake also offers 6 public boat ramps in case you have your own boat to bring along.
Perry State Park might be worth a full weekend trip, they offer four cabins available for reserve, many camping spots, hiking and even equestrian trails.
Some of you may not know – Darrell Tierney, Senior Wealth Manager and Windward founder, had a sailboat here for many years before he recently moved his boat to Table Rock Lake!
Smithville Lake
In Clay County, Missouri, Smithville Lake covers 7,200 acres of water and offers several fun activities for outdoor enthusiasts just 20 miles from downtown Kansas City. Smithville Lake offers over 700 campsites for your family.
